Living la dolce vita, at least for a week…

Roberto Girotti

CURATED BY Roberto Girotti

Last month, I had the pleasure of returning to Italy, the land of my ancestors, the land of my father, the land where I can understand almost everything, they say, but invariably, I always make big mistakes when I try to speak it.

With a name like Roberto Girotti, it is almost incomprehensible for them that I don’t speak the language!

I arrived in Rome and checked in at the beautiful Anantara Palazzo Naidi Hotel. Rome, the capital city of Italy, is often described as the “Eternal City” and is also majestic, romantic, and breathtaking.

Italian people are passionate, expressive, and renowned for their hospitality; they exude a strong sense of style and pride in their heritage.

They also value “La dolce vita,” prioritizing connection, lively conversations, and exceptional food. But “La dolce vita” is an iconic Italian phrase that translates to “the sweet life.” It is a cultural philosophy centered around slowing down and appreciating the simple everyday joys of existence without being stressed by work or fast-paced obligations!

Our Fam Trip was carefully curated by our DMC Alidays Italian Experiences, who, after 3 great days in Rome, took us to Amalfi via Pompeii. The Amalfi Coast is a stunning, dramatic stretch of coastline in southern Italy known for its sheer cliffs and pastel-colored villages cascading into the Mediterranean Sea. It blends breathtaking natural beauty with world-class dining, upscale shopping, and a vibrant, sun-drenched Italian lifestyle. Here we also stayed at the beautiful Anantara Convento di Amalfi

From Amalfi, we drove to Naples to savor their famous pizza margherita and then to catch a high-speed train to the regal city of Milan. Upon arrival, we checked in at the beautiful Park Hyatt Milan, in the heart of Milan, just a few steps away from Piazza del Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.  Milan is Italy’s dynamic financial and economic capital, seamlessly blending centuries of rich heritage with cutting-edge modernity. Renowned globally as a premier fashion and design hub, the metropolis is also celebrated for masterpieces like Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, the spectacular Gothic Duomo, and the world-famous  La Scala opera house.

Italy isn’t just a destination; it’s a feeling that lingers long after you return home. The warmth of the people, the richness of the art, and the unforgettable flavors of the authentic pasta have left an indelible mark on my soul.

Saying goodbye to Italy is never easy. This trip has been a whirlwind of Vespa rides and mini-cuppers, stunning architecture, and endless laughter over plates of delicious food, my daily gelato, and espressos.

The Italian philosophy of “dolce far niente” or the sweetness of doing nothing has truly spoiled me! Thank you, Italy, for a trip of a lifetime.
