Egypt is more than a destination. It's the kind of journey that stays with your clients long after they return home. A place where every experience feels deeply personal, every landscape tells a story, and every moment is steeped in thousands of years of history.
From the iconic Pyramids of Giza and the magnificent Temples of Luxor and Karnak to the timeless beauty of the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel, Egypt offers extraordinary encounters with one of the world's oldest civilizations. Yet its true luxury lies beyond the landmarks.
We began our very first Egypt FAM with our DMC Partner, Afro Asian Travel, with a small group of Luxury Travel Advisors from across the United States. Giza Palace was our host for the three nights we began in Cairo. Our rooms were all very large with huge bathrooms, every amenity imaginable and incredibly attentive service. The tub alone was reason enough to never leave the room!
Visiting the GEM, Grand Egyptian Museum, was at the top of our list, followed by the Pyramids and Sphinx, all iconic. The museum is magnificent. There will never be enough time to experience it all, but our expert Egyptologist guide, Mohammed, was sure to share as much history as possible in a short amount of time.
But nothing prepares you for the King Tutankhamun exhibit. It’s not only the opulence but the sheer volume of impeccably preserved artifacts that leaves you spellbound. And then there is the pièce de résistance, King Tut’s mask. This solid gold burial mask is encased in a glass enclosure with a line that allows you to view it from several vantage points. The museum itself is a work of art and gently guides you through over 100,000 artifacts spanning 5,000 years of ancient Egyptian history. It deserves as much time as one can dedicate during a Cairo visit.
As we tried to wrap our minds around what we had just experienced, we braved the high temperatures and visited the Pyramids and Sphinx. The history weighs on you more than the heat. We all learned about these places in school and saw pictures in books, but it is otherworldly when you walk the grounds walked by kings and pharaohs.
Our time in Cairo included a few hotel inspections so that our Advisors could best pair their clients with the most suitable accommodations. Visits included The St. Regis, Four Seasons Cairo Nile Plaza, Four Seasons Cairo at the First Residence, and The Pyramids of Giza Hotel, a Marriott property. These properties are in different parts of Cairo, which is quite spread out. Along with our stay at Giza Palace, this gave Advisors the firsthand knowledge needed to make the best recommendations.
We departed Cairo and flew to Luxor. Imagine your clients waking to the sunrise aboard an elegant Nile cruise, enjoying private access to ancient wonders with expert Egyptologists. Every Egypt itinerary can be thoughtfully tailored to reflect their interests, pace, and travel style, creating a seamless blend of culture, authenticity, and refined comfort.
Our experience was so magical that we all agreed the river cruise was the highlight. We slowed down and enjoyed the beautiful scenery, such a drastic contrast to Cairo. Luxor was green and lush. Although temperatures were higher here, there always seemed to be a bit of a breeze.
We boarded our luxury charter, Jazz Senator, which we called home for four nights as we made our way to Aswan. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They were attentive and always offering a smile.
Each of the 16 cabins on board are outside cabins with king or twin beds, a small balcony with seating, living area with sofa, coffee table, flat-screen TV, coffee service, mini fridge, huge closets and a massive bathroom with double vanity. And, of course, amazing A/C! There was Wi-Fi throughout the ship, including the beautiful sundeck with lounge chairs, cabanas and a swimming pool. Lunch was served one afternoon, buffet style, as we cruised down the Nile.
It was breathtaking. The best part, however, was watching life as we sailed by. We happened to be in Egypt during Eid Al-Adha and caught glimpses of celebrations in each port and along the riverbanks. The children waved to us from the shore as they celebrated with their families.
While crossing the Esna Lock, we were greeted by a group of teenage boys yelling random words they knew in English and other languages. They asked our names and where we were from and ran the entire length of the lock as we waved and made heart signs with our fingers. We all felt such a beautiful connection that it made us love Egypt even deeper than we expected.
That one interaction has stayed with me, and I look forward to returning with my family. I want to see them enjoy the beauty of the country, the history and, most of all, the people. A Nile river cruise is magical in so many ways.
Luxor is home to both Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple. We visited both before settling into our cabins for our first night on the river.
We woke to a delicious buffet breakfast with everything you could ever want, including fresh juices and pastries. Our visit to the Valley of the Kings was beyond belief. With over 65 known tombs, 19 are open to the public. We toured a few of the multiple Rameses tombs before venturing into Seti I. The condition of the artwork was incredible, with vibrant colors that looked like they had just been painted, yet were only uncovered in the early 1800s.
Walking deep into the 446-foot tomb, I could hardly wrap my brain around what I was seeing with my own eyes.
There is no guiding allowed within the tombs, but we were briefly educated prior to entering and were given time to explore each chamber at our own pace. It was a steep stairwell into the unknown, truly an experience not soon forgotten.
Our nights were silent. There is little light, but the moon reflected on the water and the serenity was such a contrast from our time in Cairo. Each day we had another breathtaking temple to explore.
Upon our arrival in Edfu, we toured the Temple of Edfu and then sailed on to Kom Ombo, where we visited the Temple of Kom Ombo. Each and every temple we visited was different and ranged across centuries. It boggles the mind to see what was constructed in such remote areas.
Aswan was our final destination on the Nile, and it was so peaceful. There are countless boats on the river and we enjoyed a short sail on a felucca, a traditional Egyptian sailing boat. Life on the river is 24/7. People travel alongside one another, gliding up and down the river. It’s really beautiful.
We spent our last day taking a full-day tour to the Temples of Abu Simbel. One monument was built in honor of Ramses II and the other to Queen Nefertari. In the 1960s, the temples were relocated to higher ground to save them from flooding caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam. This massive international project is considered one of the greatest achievements in archaeological preservation.
The last night was spent visiting Philae Temple with a sound and light show experience, truly unforgettable.
For luxury travelers seeking more than a vacation, Egypt delivers something truly rare: a journey that inspires wonder, deepens perspective, and creates memories that become lifelong stories. It's the kind of destination that elevates your portfolio and gives your clients an experience they'll treasure forever.
We know Afro Asian Travel DMC will give you the peace of mind that goes with working with true experts. I know I will return, as I left a little piece of my heart in this magnificent country.
