I recently had the privilege of experiencing Rwanda, first in Kigali, and then at the extraordinary One&Only Nyungwe House and One&Only Gorilla’s Nest. It is remarkable to witness how far Rwanda has come since the tragedy of 1994. In just 31 years, the country has transformed itself with determination, purpose, and hope. From there, I traveled to the One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, the gateway to one of life’s most extraordinary experiences: trekking to see the mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park. The hike is challenging, moving, and deeply humbling. To stand just a few feet from these gentle giants in their natural habitat is truly a once-in-a-lifetime privilege one that stays with you long after you leave the forest.
