Chill at the amazing Presidente InterContinental Cozumel

Picture yourself relaxing in an overwater beach cabana, wind blowing, sun shining and water lapping beneath you. A waiter brings you a cold cocktail and you climb into an overwater hammock to soak in the scenery.

This is Presidente InterContinental Cozumel. Referred to by the locals as the Presidente, this is an iconic property that has been on the island for nearly 40 years.  When you arrive your stress levels immediately drop. I believe this is mostly due to the amazing staff that seems to anticipate your every need, the cold cocktail for example.

Most know Cozumel as the home to the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world, spanning nearly 700 miles. A divers paradise, all levels of experience are welcome to come and explore its waters. A true haven for divers and snorkelers alike. One of the advantages to this property for divers is that they can walk right out of your room to a waiting dive boat, a true Dive In, Dive Out experience. Three daily departure times are offered including night dives for the more advanced.

We watched several boat departures while enjoying our ocean-view breakfast at the main restaurant, El Caribeno, offering one of the most extensive buffet breakfasts I have ever seen.

Snorkelers can step directly into the water and begin exploring right off the beach. Equipment is available from the on-site Padi Certified Dive Shop. Wave runner rentals, paddle boards, kayaks and scuba equipment are all available. We grabbed our snorkeling gear and stepped out into coral filled waters.

This small island off the coast of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, is easily reached by non-stop flights from gateways including Dallas, Los Angeles, Charlotte and Chicago to name a few. From Playa del Carmen you can hop on a 40 minute ferry and arrive with plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent sunsets from Cozumel.

This beachfront property has so much to offer that guests seldom feel the need to leave. All 221 rooms have either a balcony or terrace;  views can be of the lush gardens or the sparkling ocean. My room was spacious and filled with light, every detail was thought of.

This is the ideal spot for multi-generational families, couples, groups and girl trips. It’s also the perfect backdrop to a Destination Wedding. There are 4 air-conditioned spaces to choose from and countless outdoor venues. It’s really the perfect setting for any celebration.

For the sun worshipers there are 6 over water cabanas available for rent as well as 4 pool cabanas. The Concierge can assist in reserving these incredible cabanas prior to arrival which is highly recommended. There are 2 pools to choose from, one close to all the action and the 2nd is almost hidden away and quiet.

Don’t forget about the beach, a small cove, calm enough for children and usually free of sargassum. The Kids Club is open 365 days a year, which allows the adults a little more time together,

While the kids are being entertained, the adults can choose a bit of relaxation at the Ikal Spa. They offer traditional Mayan Temazcal rituals, visits with a local Shaman and of course more traditional services. I was encouraged to arrive early to my massage so I could experience the jacuzzi, polar pool, sauna and steam room. I left feeling renewed and ready for our next activity.

The hotel makes all guests feel at home offering access to their fire pits and smore-making or movie nights by the pool. If I could have stayed longer I would have but I left this beautiful property knowing I would return, as so many of their repeat guests do.
